The President of the Republic, Iván Duque, presented on Friday a set of ideas to boost the national tourism sector in the framework of the closure of version 23 of the Congress of the National Association of Travel Agencies (Anato), held yesterday and today in Bucaramanga.
Information, Institutions, Infrastructure, Industry, Integration, Inclusion and Inspiration were the seven ideas proposed by the chief executive during the event:
-Information to make the best sectoral decisions. “The satellite account has to be sufficiently detailed and rigorous to know how many operators there are, how many companies, how much is being marketed, for decision making.”
-Institutions. “If we have Bancóldex and Procolombia as two entities that are attached to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, I do not find any reason why this sector is not represented in the board of directors of these two entities taking sectoral decisions.”
-Infrastructure. “Do we have the airport networks that we need? Do we have the operating capacity we would like to have to attract more products? Do we have the best aeronautical policy? Do we have enough road connection? ”
-Industry. “We have to eliminate unnecessary expenses, reform the public administration, reduce evasion and not suffocate small and medium-sized companies, among which there are travel agencies.”
-Instruction. “That the baccalaureate students receive training for employment during the last three years and that they have the possibility of graduating with double degrees according to the vocation of each region. That we have technicians in tourism and hotel management. ”
-Integration. “It is necessary to develop the Aerocafé, the axis of road integration of Ánimas-Nuquí, and from the inclusion to expand our gastronomic offer.”
-Inspiration: “We have to look for mechanisms so that small companies have access to technology. My goal is that the sector represents 8% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and that the country exceeds 6 million tourists. ”
Duque also promised to end this year with the procedures that are preventing investment in the sector and for this he asked for the collaboration of the actors of the tourism union. “The future of Colombia is tourism and we must recognize it and work for it. I want tourism to be Colombia’s new oil, which will become the country’s largest currency generator, “he said.
During the event the president also officially took over the vice minister of Tourism, Juan Pablo Franky, who yesterday announced & nbsp; the roadmap that the portfolio it represents will manage for the development of national tourism.
The request of the tourism sector
The executive president of Anato, Paula Cortés, requested Friday the head of state to strengthen investment in the sector.
“Our industry generates its own resources that are not necessarily reflected in the budget assigned by the National Government. You could strengthen the investment resources, assigning to the sector, the total amount generated by the tourism tax, “he said during the closing ceremony of the 23rd edition of the Anato Congress.
In accordance with the provisions of article 4 of Law 1101 of 2006, as of January 1, 2012, the tax rate for tourism is the sum of 15 dollars or its equivalent in pesos.
On the other hand, the executive insisted on the need to simplify the procedures and tax burdens for companies, as well as the inclusion of companies in the sector in the creativity workshops organized by the “Government to make them more competitive, we need to have the vision of the future that global markets require, and help from experts would allow us to be more competitive and productive “.
Medellín, will host the Anato Congress in 2019
The mayor of the Antioquia capital, Federico Gutiérrez, announced on Friday afternoon that Medellín will host the 24th edition of the Anato Congress.
“The next year we are waiting for you in Medellin to rediscover the city, which is now greener, more sustainable and for all,” the official said.
